Coastal Brunswick residents and visitors should exercise caution today, October 10th, due to a Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service Wilmington NC.

A moderate risk of rip currents and strong east-to-west longshore currents are expected from 6 AM EDT this morning through this evening. Swimmers and surfers could be swept into rip currents, piers, jetties, or other hazardous areas. Caution is advised when in or near the water. Check with lifeguards before entering the ocean.

Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 6 AM to 10 AM EDT today. Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level is expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. This may lead to minor coastal flooding on low-lying roads and locations along the Intracoastal Waterway and adjacent tidal creeks. If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.

These alerts are for Coastal Brunswick County. The Beach Hazards Statement is effective until 8:00 PM EDT tonight. The Coastal Flood Advisory is effective until 10:00 AM EDT this morning.
