Hillsborough County residents can access fingerprinting services from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) at multiple locations for identification verification and background checks.

The HCSO provides free ink fingerprinting for Hillsborough County residents. For those outside the county, the fee is $10 per card. A specialized rate of $5 applies for out-of-county residents needing fingerprints for a Concealed Weapons License.

Local background checks, conducted by name only, cost $0.15 per page.

To use the services, individuals must present a valid government-issued photo ID, such as a passport, driver's license, state ID card or military ID. All payments are cash only and require exact change.

The HCSO does not provide fingerprinting for name changes; the Tampa Police Department handles that service.

The Identification Section at 1238 Tech Blvd., Tampa, FL 33619, operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call 813-247-0062.

Additional services are available at HCSO District offices:

  • District I: 14102 N. 20th Street, Tampa, FL 33613. Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Contact: 813-247-0600.
  • District III: 7202 Gunn Highway, Tampa, FL 33625. Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Contact: 813-247-0330.
  • District IV: 508 33rd Street S, Ruskin, FL 33570. Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Contact: 813-247-0455.

The Identification Section also offers specialized fingerprinting for ID theft reports, Canadian and international immigration purposes, and guardianship applications. The section will provide fingerprint cards for these services.

For state-level background searches, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) charges $24 for general public requests submitted by mail. Individuals seeking a personal review of their own record can contact FDLE at 850-410-7898; this service is free.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) manages national fingerprint background searches. General public requests cost $24 and require statutory authority. Personal review requests for national records cost $18. Contact the FBI at 304-625-3878 or visit their website for forms.
