Seffner businesses and event organizers can now hire off-duty Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) deputies for security, traffic control and escort services.

The program, managed by HCSO under Florida Statute 30.2905, allows deputies to work during their off-duty hours for public and private entities.

Deputies can maintain order, facilitate traffic flow, provide security and escort funeral processions, heavy equipment or wide load transports.

To use these services, organizers must submit an Off-Duty Deputy Request Form to Off-Duty Management at least five working days before their event. Requests with less notice may not be approved.

Off-Duty Management handles administration, including billing and fees. Compensation or benefits deputies receive from off-duty employers do not come from HCSO.

HCSO reserves the right to decline job requests deemed inappropriate, in violation of law or policy, or creating a conflict of interest. The program is voluntary for deputies, so jobs may not be filled. HCSO can cancel details without notice and recall deputies for official duty.

The Sheriff's Office prohibits off-duty work at establishments primarily selling alcohol, with bail bond agencies, for non-law enforcement investigations or security, as private watchmen or store detectives, in partisan politics, or in civil matters like domestic disputes or landlord/tenant issues.

Employers must obtain any necessary permits. To start a request, complete information with Off-Duty Management via their online portal. For amendments, late requests or cancellations, contact Off-Duty Management at 813-498-2156.

Filing false information may lead to denial of current and future requests.

For general inquiries during business hours (Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), contact the Off-Duty Events Squad at 813-247-8280 or [email protected].

For 24/7, after-hours or holiday contact, Off-Duty Management is available at 813-498-2156.
