Robert Anthony Abbott, known as Tony, a lifelong Bradenton resident and figure in the local softball community, died Sept. 27, 2026. He was 66.

Born June 5, 1960, in Bradenton, Abbott dedicated his life to his family, friends and the athletes he coached throughout Manatee County.

Abbott’s greatest joy came from his role as a devoted father to his daughters, Crystal Abbott, Samantha Abbott, Sabrina Abbott and Whitney Young. He was their protector, hero, biggest supporter and best friend.

He also cherished his role as a proud grandfather to Paisley, Jaydon, Dj, Tommy, Colton, Ricky, Lilly and Maddie, and anticipated becoming a great-grandfather.

Beyond his family, Abbott was a beloved part of the Bradenton travel softball community. He founded the Manatee Twisters Association and coached at Palma Sola Park and Bayshore High School. His coaching philosophy encouraged young athletes, taught them life lessons and supported their growth on and off the field.

Abbott is survived by his daughters, Crystal Abbott and her husband, Daniel Haskins; Samantha Abbott; Sabrina Abbott; and Whitney Young. He is also survived by his oldest brother, Jay Abbott; brothers and lifelong best friends, John Vegas and Ricky Jones; his grandchildren; and numerous other family members, friends, players and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelly Virginia Abbott and Harry Warden Abbott, and his sister Peggy Arnold.

Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel handled the funeral arrangements.
