Dense Fog Advisory: Drive with Caution in Central MT Until Noon Today

A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for parts of central, north central, and southwest Montana until 12:00 PM MDT today, October 13, significantly reducing visibility and creating hazardous driving conditions with potential for icy surfaces.

Drivers in portions of central, north central, and southwest Montana are advised to exercise extreme caution due to a Dense Fog Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Great Falls. The advisory is in effect until 12:00 PM MDT today, October 13.

Visibility is significantly reduced, with some areas experiencing as low as one-quarter mile visibility. This includes Eastern Glacier, Western Toole, and Central Pondera counties; Eastern Toole and Liberty; Hill County; Northern Blaine County; Eastern Pondera and Eastern Teton; Western and Central Chouteau County; Bears Paw Mountains and Southern Blaine; Cascade County below 5000ft; Judith Basin County and Judith Gap; Fergus County below 4500ft; Helena Valley; Meagher County Valleys; Canyon Ferry Area; Missouri Headwaters; Madison River Valley; and Gallatin Valley.

The NWS warns that low visibility will make driving conditions hazardous. Additionally, below-freezing temperatures could lead to a glaze of ice on surfaces, particularly on bridges and overpasses. If you must drive, slow down, use your headlights, and maintain plenty of distance from other vehicles.
