Winter Weather Advisory: Snow and Gusty Winds Expected in Southwest Montana
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for parts of central and southwest Montana until Monday morning, with snow accumulations of 2-8 inches and wind gusts up to 45 mph expected, potentially causing difficult travel and isolated power outages.
HELENA, MT – Residents in portions of central and southwest Montana should prepare for a Winter Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Great Falls, MT. The advisory is effective immediately, October 10, at 10:40 PM MDT, and remains in effect until 6:00 AM MDT on Monday, October 12.
Snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected in lower elevations, with 5 to 8 inches possible in mountainous areas. Locally higher amounts of snow are anticipated. Gusty winds reaching up to 45 mph are also forecast.
The affected areas include Helena Valley, Canyon Ferry Area, Missouri Headwaters, Madison River Valley, Northwest Beaverhead County, Beaverhead and Western Madison below 6000ft, Ruby Mountains and Southern Beaverhead Mountains, and Gallatin and Madison County Mountains and Centennial Mountains.
Travel could be difficult due to the conditions. The NWS warns that gusty winds combined with the wet, heavy snow may bring down tree branches, potentially leading to isolated power outages. Accumulations on non-grassy surfaces will be most notable between the evening and late morning hours.
The NWS advises travelers to slow down and use caution while driving. For the latest road conditions in Montana, dial 511.
