Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Southwest and Central Montana

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for portions of southwest and central Montana, effective from this evening until Monday morning, with snow, gusty winds, and difficult travel expected.

Residents across Helena Valley, Canyon Ferry Area, Missouri Headwaters, Madison River Valley, Gallatin Valley, Northwest Beaverhead County, Beaverhead and Western Madison below 6000ft, Ruby Mountains and Southern Beaverhead Mountains, and Gallatin and Madison County Mountains and Centennial Mountains are advised to slow down and use caution while traveling as a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued.

The National Weather Service in Great Falls, MT, issued the advisory today, October 10, at 10:56 AM MDT, effective from 6 PM this evening until 6 AM MDT on Monday, October 12. Snow is expected, with total accumulations of 2 to 5 inches across lower elevations and 5 to 8 inches in the mountains. Locally higher amounts are possible. Winds are forecast to gust as high as 50 mph.

Travel could be difficult due to these conditions. The combination of gusty winds and wet, heavy snow may bring down tree branches, and isolated power outages are possible. Snowfall amounts will vary drastically between grassy surfaces and roadways, particularly at lower elevations, with accumulations on non-grassy surfaces mainly occurring from this evening through late Monday morning.

For the latest road conditions, residents can call 511.
