Freeze Watch Issued for Northern Owens Valley
A Freeze Watch has been issued for the Northern Owens Valley from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, with temperatures as low as 30 degrees Fahrenheit possible, requiring residents to protect plants and plumbing.
Residents in the Northern Owens Valley are advised to take immediate action to protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing due to a Freeze Watch issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Las Vegas NV.
The Freeze Watch is effective from Tuesday night, October 13, into Wednesday morning, October 14. Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees Fahrenheit are possible during this period.
The NWS warns that frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. Unprotected outdoor plumbing may also be damaged. This alert specifically impacts the Northern Owens Valley area.
To prevent damage, take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. Additionally, to prevent water pipes from freezing, wrap or drain them, or allow them to drip slowly.
The initial Freeze Watch for Monday night into Tuesday morning has been cancelled due to increased cloud cover and gusty winds, which are expected to keep temperatures above freezing tonight. The updated watch targets Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, when winds are expected to be lighter and skies clear.
