Freeze Watch Issued for Northern Owens Valley: Protect Plants and Pipes
A Freeze Watch has been issued for the Northern Owens Valley from late Monday night, October 11, through Tuesday morning, October 12, with temperatures as low as 30 degrees Fahrenheit possible. Residents should protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing.
Residents in the Northern Owens Valley are advised to take immediate precautions to protect plants and plumbing due to a Freeze Watch issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Las Vegas. This watch is effective from late Monday night, October 11, through Tuesday morning, October 12.
Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees Fahrenheit are possible. Such conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. Unprotected outdoor plumbing may also be damaged.
To prevent potential damage, the NWS advises taking steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. Additionally, to prevent water pipes from freezing, residents should wrap or drain them, or allow them to drip slowly.
