Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Death Valley National Park
An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for Death Valley National Park, effective from October 6 at 2:25 AM PDT until October 9 at 8:00 PM PDT, with temperatures near 110 degrees Fahrenheit expected.
Residents and visitors in Death Valley National Park are advised to take immediate precautions as an Extreme Heat Warning has been issued. The National Weather Service (NWS) Las Vegas NV issued the warning on October 6 at 2:25 AM PDT, effective until 8:00 PM PDT on Friday, October 9.
Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with high temperatures near 110 degrees Fahrenheit and overnight lows remaining around 85 degrees Fahrenheit. This severe heat poses a major risk to anyone without adequate cooling and hydration, particularly in elevations below 2000 feet within Death Valley National Park.
To prevent heat-related illnesses, which increase significantly during such events, the NWS advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned rooms, and avoiding direct sun exposure. Check on relatives and neighbors. Never leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles, as interior temperatures can become lethal quickly.
When outdoors, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours. If you observe symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke, take action immediately. Move anyone overcome by heat to a cool, shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency – call 911.
For those performing outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings from the National Weather Service for updates.
