High Risk of Rip Currents and Dangerous Waves at Maryland Beaches
A Beach Hazards Statement and High Surf Advisory are in effect for Maryland beaches from Sunday morning through Sunday evening, warning of a high risk of rip currents and dangerous waves.
Beachgoers are advised to remain out of the water at Maryland beaches due to a Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Wakefield VA. The alert is in effect from Sunday morning, October 11, through Sunday evening.
A High Surf Advisory is also active from 6 AM to 6 PM EDT on Sunday, October 11, with large breaking waves of 7 to 8 feet expected in the surf zone. The Beach Hazards Statement indicates a high risk of rip currents for the duration of the alert.
These conditions will create dangerous swimming and surfing conditions, and localized beach erosion is also anticipated. The NWS strongly advises against entering the water to avoid these hazards.
