A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Lower Plaquemines, including Port Sulphur, Empire, and Venice, effective immediately by the NWS New Orleans LA. Life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. Residents in these areas should have completed flood preparations and ordered evacuations. Evacuees must be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside.
Wind speeds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are also anticipated. Remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. Potential impacts include limited damage to property, tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are expected on bridges and elevated roadways. Little to no flooding rain or tornado threats are expected.
