A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Southern Hancock County, including Kiln, Pearlington, Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead, and Waveland, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in New Orleans, LA, issued the watch today, October 7, at 3:54 PM CDT. Residents in these areas should finalize storm preparations immediately.

Life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Damage to coastal buildings and roads is anticipated. Evacuation orders, if issued for your area, must be followed to ensure safety.

Winds are forecast at 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. While this is a decrease from previous assessments, hazardous winds are expected. Damage to lightweight structures, large tree limbs, and scattered power outages are possible. All preparations should be completed now before hazardous winds begin.

Rainfall of 1-3 inches is expected, with locally higher amounts, though the threat of widespread flooding rain is low. Tornadoes are not expected, but residents should monitor for changes in the forecast. For more information, visit msema.org. This watch is set to expire on October 8, 2026, at 12:00 AM UTC.
