A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Southern Hancock, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service in New Orleans, LA. This includes the communities of Kiln, Pearlington, Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead, and Waveland. Life-threatening storm surge inundation of 3-5 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning.
Residents in these areas should plan for significant storm surge flooding and begin preparations now. Assemble disaster supplies and identify your evacuation route. If evacuation orders are issued for your area, leave immediately; failure to do so could result in loss of life.
Wind speeds are forecasted to be 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with potential for wind up to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway to prepare for limited wind damage. Expect damage to carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, along with scattered power outages. Complete all preparations before hazardous winds begin.
