Extreme Storm Surge Warning Issued for Coastal Bay: Shelter Immediately
Coastal Bay faces an Extreme Storm Surge Warning with life-threatening flooding, dangerous winds, major rain, and potential tornadoes; residents must shelter immediately and heed all warnings.
Coastal Bay residents are urged to shelter immediately as an Extreme Storm Surge Warning is in effect, issued by the NWS Tallahassee FL on October 9 at 5:05 PM EDT. Life-threatening storm surge of 4-7 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning in Panama City, Panama City Beach, Mexico Beach, Lynn Haven, and Bayou George. All ordered evacuations should be complete. Those who have not evacuated must remain sheltered in a safe location and move to upper floors if water rises.
Equivalent Tropical Storm force winds with gusts up to 75 mph are expected until early Saturday morning. Last-minute protection efforts should be complete. Now is the time to shelter from dangerous wind.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain possible, leading to potential major flooding. Heed all flood watches and warnings. A Tornado Watch is also in effect, with a very favorable situation for many tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, move quickly to the safest place within your shelter.
The Storm Surge Warning is effective until October 10, 2026, 1:15 AM UTC. For local weather, visit weather.gov/tallahassee. For emergency information, visit floridadisaster.org and baycountyfl.gov/EmergencyManagement.
