Extreme Storm Surge Warning for Coastal Bay: Take Immediate Action
Coastal Bay faces an Extreme Storm Surge Warning issued by NWS Tallahassee FL, with life-threatening storm surge, hurricane-force winds, major flooding, and tornado threats requiring immediate action until early Saturday morning.
A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Coastal Bay, including Panama City, Panama City Beach, Mexico Beach, Lynn Haven, and Bayou George. This warning, issued by NWS Tallahassee FL on October 9 at 5:17 AM EDT, is classified as an Extreme severity event with Immediate urgency, expiring at 1:30 PM UTC today.
Residents in these areas face a life-threatening storm surge with potential inundation of 4-7 feet above ground, and possibly greater than 6 feet. All ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees should be in safe shelters. If you are still in an affected area, remain sheltered and move to upper floors if water rises.
Tropical Storm force winds (35-45 mph with gusts to 70 mph) are expected from early this afternoon until early Saturday morning, with a potential for winds reaching CAT 1 or 2 hurricane force (74 to 110 mph). Prepare for considerable wind damage and move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, leading to potential major flooding. Evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings. The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes; listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if issued. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter.
