Residents and visitors in South Walton and Coastal Bay are urged to remain out of the water due to a High Rip Current Risk and High Surf Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. The Rip Current Statement is effective from October 8 at 12:00 PM EDT until October 12 at 4:00 AM EDT. The High Surf Warning is in effect from 10 AM CDT Friday to 10 AM CDT Sunday.

Dangerous rip currents are expected. The High Surf Warning forecasts dangerously large breaking waves of 8 to 12 feet in the surf zone for Walton and Bay County Beaches. These conditions can sweep individuals off jetties and docks into dangerous seas, leading to life-threatening swimming conditions and significant beach erosion.

The NWS advises everyone to remain out of the water due to these life-threatening surf conditions. Stay off jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
