High Surf Warning for Coastal Bay, South Walton until Sunday

A High Surf Warning is in effect for Coastal Bay and South Walton until Sunday, with dangerous 8-12 foot waves and life-threatening rip currents expected.

Residents and visitors in Coastal Bay and South Walton are advised to stay out of the water due to a High Surf Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. This warning is in effect from 10:00 AM CDT Friday, October 9, until 10:00 AM CDT Sunday, October 11.

Dangerous breaking waves of 8 to 12 feet are expected in the surf zone, creating life-threatening swimming conditions and significant beach erosion. A High Rip Current Risk is also in effect through late Sunday night, with rip currents capable of sweeping even strong swimmers away from shore.

The NWS advises everyone to remain out of the water. Do not go on jetties, piers, or other waterside infrastructure. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
