EBR Schools Named National Magnet District of Year

The East Baton Rouge Parish School System won the National Magnet District of the Year award from Magnet Schools of America on April 15, beating 14 other school systems nationwide. The district received $2,500.
Magnet Schools of America presented the award during its annual conference in San Diego. The organization recognizes districts that demonstrate innovation, diversity, and academic excellence in magnet programs.
Superintendent LaMont Cole said the award reflects the district's commitment to specialized education. "From classrooms to communities, this district is setting the standard for what's possible," Cole said.
Students and staff from Liberty Magnet High and Scotlandville Middle Pre-Engineering Academy represented EBR Schools at the conference. Baton Rouge Magnet High School Principal Nanette McCann attended as a finalist for Magnet School Principal of the Year.
The district earned recognition through Magnet Mania, a bracket-style competition Magnet Schools of America launched in February. EBR Schools operates magnet programs in engineering, performing arts, and college preparatory studies.
