SAN DIEGO, CA – Residents and visitors in San Diego and Orange County Coastal Areas should prepare for elevated surf, dangerous rip currents, and minor coastal flooding beginning today. The National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego has issued a Beach Hazards Statement effective immediately, October 8, at 1:58 PM PDT, and extending through Friday evening.

Surf of 3 to 5 feet with sets up to 7 feet is expected, creating dangerous rip currents. Swimming conditions will be hazardous. Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until 2 PM PDT Tuesday, October 13, anticipating minor coastal flooding around high tides. High tides are projected to peak between 6.5 and 7.0 feet during morning and evening hours.

Impacts include potential flooding of beach parking lots, boardwalks, and roads, though only isolated road closures are expected. Minor coastal erosion is also anticipated. Coastal officials are advised to take necessary precautionary measures to safeguard beaches.

The Beach Hazards Statement is expected to expire on October 9 at 11:00 PM PDT, however, the NWS advises continued caution through Friday evening due to surf conditions.
