A Beach Hazards Statement, Coastal Flood Warning, and Coastal Flood Advisory have been issued by NWS San Diego for San Diego and Orange County Coastal Areas, expecting high surf, coastal flooding, and shoreline erosion from October 10 to October 13. Residents must take action to protect property and avoid hazardous water conditions.
Residents and visitors in San Diego and Orange County Coastal Areas are advised to take immediate action to protect flood-prone property. The National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego has issued a Beach Hazards Statement, a Coastal Flood Warning, and a Coastal Flood Advisory due to expected high surf and coastal flooding.
A Coastal Flood Warning is in effect until 3 PM PDT Sunday, October 11, with significant coastal flooding and erosion likely. Following this, a Coastal Flood Advisory will be active from 3 PM Sunday until 2 PM PDT Tuesday, October 13, predicting minor coastal flooding.
The Beach Hazards Statement is valid from Sunday morning through Sunday evening, October 11. During this time, surf of 5 to 7 feet, with local sets up to 9 feet, is anticipated. The NWS warns that numerous roads and walking paths may close due to high water. Low-lying properties, including homes and businesses, may flood, and shoreline erosion will occur during morning high tides. Elevated surf will create a high risk of rip currents.
The greatest impacts are expected on Sunday morning due to a combination of increased swell from Tropical Storm Rachel, onshore winds, and high tides locally over 7.5 feet. If travel is required, do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. The NWS strongly advises remaining out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.
