Beach Hazards and Minor Coastal Flooding Expected for San Diego, Orange Coasts
Dangerous rip currents and minor coastal flooding are expected for San Diego and Orange County coastal areas from today through Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
Coastal residents and visitors in San Diego and Orange Counties should prepare for dangerous rip currents and minor coastal flooding beginning today. The National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego has issued a Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory, effective immediately.
The Beach Hazards Statement, in effect from this afternoon through Friday evening, warns of dangerous rip currents along San Diego County Coastal Areas and Orange County Coastal Areas. Elevated surf of 3-6 feet, with sets to 7 feet, is expected on south and southwest-facing beaches.
Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in place from 6 AM Wednesday to 11 AM PDT Friday, anticipating minor coastal flooding. This could lead to the flooding of lots, parks, and roads, with isolated road closures possible. Minor coastal erosion is also expected. High tides are projected to peak between 6.5 and 7.0 feet during morning and evening hours.
The NWS advises that if travel is required, individuals should allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Property owners in flood-prone areas should take necessary actions to protect their assets. For safety, residents and visitors are urged to remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions. This alert was issued by NWS San Diego CA.
