Beach Hazards Statement Issued: Dangerous Conditions Expected for San Diego and Orange County Coasts
A Beach Hazards Statement has been issued for San Diego and Orange County Coastal Areas, warning of minor coastal flooding and dangerous rip currents from Tuesday afternoon, October 4th, through Friday evening, October 9th; residents and visitors are advised to remain out of the water.
Coastal residents and visitors in San Diego and Orange Counties are advised to remain out of the water due to a Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service San Diego CA.
The statement, effective from Tuesday afternoon, October 4th, through Friday evening, October 9th, warns of minor coastal flooding and dangerous rip currents. These conditions are expected due to a combination of high tides and elevated surf. Elevated surf of 3-6 feet is anticipated on south and southwest-facing beaches. High tides are projected to peak between 6.5 and 7.0 feet during morning and evening hours.
Impacted areas include all San Diego County Coastal Areas and Orange County Coastal Areas. The National Weather Service reports an increased risk of ocean drowning, with rip currents capable of pulling swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves may also wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore. Moderate flooding of seawater is possible in some vulnerable low-lying coastal areas, and moderate beach erosion is considered possible to likely.
Residents are advised that there is a moderate chance this statement could be upgraded to a Coastal Flood Advisory and/or High Surf Advisory, and may need to be extended into the weekend.
