Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Yuma: Dangerous Temperatures Expected
An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for Yuma until Friday, October 9 at 8:00 PM MST, with dangerous temperatures between 103-107 degrees Fahrenheit expected; take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
Yuma residents are advised to take immediate precautions as an Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix AZ has forecast dangerously hot conditions, with afternoon temperatures expected to range from 103 to 107 degrees Fahrenheit. This warning is effective immediately, October 7 at 12:11 PM MST, and will remain in effect until Friday, October 9 at 8:00 PM MST.
This period of extreme heat carries a major heat risk. Heat-related illnesses, including heat cramps and heat exhaustion, can develop rapidly. Without intervention, these conditions can lead to heat stroke, which is a medical emergency. The NWS emphasizes that anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool, shaded location, and 911 should be called immediately if heat stroke is suspected.
Residents working or spending time outdoors are urged to reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours. Wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drinking plenty of water are recommended. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) advises frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments for outdoor workers. Public cooling shelters may be available; residents should consult county officials for details on local cooling center locations and hours.
