Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Yuma: Dangerous Temperatures Expected
Yuma faces an Extreme Heat Warning from October 7-9 with temperatures up to 107°F; residents should take precautions against heat-related illnesses and consult county officials for cooling shelters.
Yuma residents are advised to take immediate precautions as an Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix AZ projects dangerously hot conditions with afternoon temperatures reaching between 103 and 107 degrees Fahrenheit, creating a Major Heat Risk.
The warning is effective from 10 AM MST today, October 7th, and will remain in effect until 8 PM MST on Friday, October 9th. This period of extreme heat significantly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses.
The NWS strongly recommends taking actions to lessen the impact of the heat. Individuals working or spending time outdoors should reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. Familiarize yourself with the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
For those working outside, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) advises frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. If someone is overcome by heat, move them to a cool, shaded location immediately. Heat stroke is a medical emergency—call 911 without delay. Public cooling shelters may be available; consult county officials for details.
