Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Yuma: Dangerous Temperatures Expected
An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for Yuma from today until Friday evening, with dangerously hot temperatures up to 107 degrees expected; residents should take precautions against heat-related illnesses and seek cooling shelters if needed.
YUMA – Residents in the Yuma area should take immediate precautions as an Extreme Heat Warning has been issued, effective from today, October 8, at 12:33 PM MST, until Friday, October 9, at 8:00 PM MST. The National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix AZ warns of dangerously hot conditions with afternoon temperatures reaching 103 to 107 degrees Fahrenheit, posing a Major Heat Risk.
This severe warning indicates that heat-related illnesses will significantly increase. Overexposure can lead to heat cramps and heat exhaustion, potentially progressing to heat stroke if not addressed. The NWS advises taking extra precautions, especially for those working or spending time outdoors. Strenuous activities should be rescheduled to early morning or evening hours.
Community members are urged to wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. Recognize the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. For outdoor workers, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. If someone is overcome by heat, move them to a cool, shaded location. Heat stroke is a medical emergency; call 911 immediately.
Consult local county officials for information on public cooling shelters available in the area.
