U.S.-Iran Talks End Without Deal in Islamabad
Staff Writer
May 21, 2026
Negotiations between the United States and Iran concluded April 12 in Islamabad without reaching agreement after 21 hours of talks.
Disagreements over Iran's nuclear program and control of the Strait of Hormuz blocked a final accord. Iranian officials said they did not expect a single round to produce results and plan to continue discussions.
Hamas backed the talks in a statement to Al Jazeera, saying negotiations could "contribute to regional stability and unity among Arab and Islamic countries." Pakistani officials called the discussions part of ongoing efforts to maintain a ceasefire and advance diplomacy.
