Nassau County Fire Rescue Bans Sky Lanterns Over Fire Risk

Nassau County Fire Rescue has banned sky lanterns, classifying them as illegal fireworks due to their extreme fire risk. Residents are urged to report any sightings of these devices.

Nassau County Fire Rescue prohibits the sale, possession, and use of sky lanterns, citing their significant fire hazard. These illuminated devices are illegal fireworks in Florida and can ignite fires in structures and natural landscapes.

Residents who see individuals with or using sky lanterns should report them to the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office at (904) 548-0900. The department thanked the community for its cooperation in keeping Nassau County safe.
