Residents of Western, Central, and South Central Siskiyou County should take immediate steps to protect sensitive plants due to a Freeze Watch issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Medford, OR.
The Freeze Watch is in effect from late Sunday night, October 11, through Monday morning, October 12. During this period, sub-freezing temperatures as low as 26 degrees Fahrenheit are possible. This cold weather could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.
Affected areas include the valleys of western and central Siskiyou County, specifically the Shasta Valley, Scott Valley, and portions of the lower Klamath River Valley. Mount Shasta City and areas to its east are also included in this alert.
The NWS Medford, OR, advises taking steps now to protect tender plants from the anticipated cold. The Freeze Watch was issued on October 10 at 2:17 AM PDT and is effective until October 12 at 9:00 AM PDT.
