York County Courthouse Renovations Near Completion

York County Commissioners reported progress on courthouse renovations and other county initiatives during their recent meeting.

Commissioner Randy Obermier said carpet replacement throughout the courthouse is nearly finished, with only one records room on the second floor remaining. The project, funded with federal COVID-relief money, has spanned several years and covered offices one at a time.

The jail's fire suppression system installation also nears completion, with finishing work remaining, Obermier said.

Once those projects wrap up, the county will replace all second-floor courthouse windows to address leaking issues.

Commissioner Chairman Daniel Grotz reported progress on fundraising for the Southeast Community College Workforce Development Center through his work on the York County Development Corporation Board.

Commissioner Andy Bowman delivered several roads department updates. An 8-year-old motorgrader requires costly repairs. Bowman continues to push for a lease program for equipment to reduce repair costs. Bridge repair work on Road T is complete, and staff are preparing gravel bids for the year.

The clerk's office announced that early voting is underway for the primary election. Commissioner Deb Robertson completed her orientation for the Region V/APACE aging services board, which is scheduled to meet soon.
