Freeze Watch for Yakima Valley: Protect Plants Tonight and Monday Night
A Freeze Watch has been issued for the Yakima Valley from Monday evening through Tuesday morning, with temperatures potentially dropping to 30 degrees, prompting urgent action to protect plants and outdoor plumbing.
Residents in the Yakima Valley should take immediate steps to protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing. The National Weather Service (NWS) Pendleton has issued a Freeze Watch effective from Monday evening, October 12, through Tuesday morning, October 13. Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees Fahrenheit are possible during this period.
This Freeze Watch follows a Freeze Warning already in effect for tonight, October 11, from 11 PM PDT until 9 AM PDT Monday, October 12, where temperatures as low as 31 degrees Fahrenheit are expected. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation, and potentially damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
The NWS advises taking action now to safeguard tender plants from the cold. The Freeze Watch was issued at 2:04 PM PDT on October 11 and remains in effect until 9:00 AM PDT on October 13.
