Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Eggs Affects 98 Individuals Across 17 States

Why it matters locally: While Alaska is not currently listed among the 17 affected states, residents who have purchased eggs from Midwest Poultry Services should check for recall information due to the potential for nationwide distribution.

Ninety-eight individuals in 17 states have contracted Salmonella since November, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported. Investigators have identified shell eggs recalled by Midwest Poultry Services as a probable source of the bacteria. The Indiana-based company's recalled eggs account for some, but not all, of the reported illnesses, investigators stated. The FDA continues its investigation into the outbreak.
