The City of Lake Alfred is hiring a full-time mechanic for its Public Services Department. The position is essential for maintaining the city's vehicle and equipment fleet, ensuring uninterrupted delivery of services.
The mechanic will diagnose, maintain, and repair light and heavy-duty trucks, utility vehicles, and specialized public works machinery. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, at least three years of mechanic experience, and a valid Florida Driver’s License. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred but not mandatory.
Applicants must possess an auto/truck maintenance certification or at least one current ASE certification and provide their own tools. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and repairing engines, brakes, electrical systems, hydraulics, fuel systems, and drive-trains. The role also involves performing preventive maintenance, completing work orders, verifying mileage, ordering parts, and confirming warranty status. Maintaining shop equipment and adhering to OSHA, EPA, and DOT safety standards are also key duties. Overtime or alternate hours may be required.
The city offers a competitive salary range of $45,381 to $49,121 and a comprehensive benefits package. This includes 401(a) and 457(b) retirement plans, tuition reimbursement, a referral bonus, wellness benefits, and paid time off. Health insurance and other benefits are provided as outlined in the Personnel Manual.
