Baytown Apartments Honored with Community Impact Excellence Award

MTC received the 2025 Community Impact Excellence Award for Baytown Apartments, recognized for its contribution to affordable housing for individuals with disabilities. This prestigious award, presented by CREW Tampa Bay, highlights the lasting impact of Baytown Apartments in opening doors to safe, inclusive, and affordable housing options. Karenne Levy, MTC’s President and CEO, emphasized the importance of such developments, noting that with 1 in 36 births now recognized as on the autism spectrum, projects like Baytown are essential in ensuring people with disabilities have access to housing that is both affordable and supportive. Accessibility and inclusive design were key focuses in the development of Baytown Apartments. The community includes six ADA-convertible units, seven ADA-compatible units, and special accommodations for hearing-impaired residents. Thoughtful shared spaces—such as a fitness room, meeting areas, and a welcoming entryway—were incorporated to foster connection and independence. Baytown Apartments is ideally located in Hillsborough County with access to transportation, shopping, and essential services, making it a sustainable and inclusive housing solution for the community. This transformative project not only meets a critical need for affordable housing in the Tampa region but also sets a new standard for inclusive living. Tue, 04/07/2026 - 08:11 am Ribbon Cutting For South Tampa's Freshest Park and Playground The City of Tampa is cutting the ribbon today on a beautiful, new South Tampa park and playground.The space, formally South Dundee Park, but called Butterfly Glade Park by the neighbors, covers about half an acre. It includes multiple play structures: a pendulum swing, a climbing net, a balance log, and balance posts."We built a brand new park from nothing," Mayor Jane Castor said. "And it was a great collaboration between Parks & Recreation, the Green Team, Mobility, the Sunset Park Area Homeowners Association, and a devoted father, Christian Brown."Parks & Recreation has spent nearly $700,000 here. Brown donated $200,000 to this project, which includes a butterfly garden and artwork by his daughter, Brooke, who passed away at age 18 in 2017.Brooke, who attended Plant High School and is pictured below, aspired to be a nurse. She enjoyed working out, outdoor music festivals, and creating art. She illustrated a children's book titled "Apes, Bears, Cats.""We want to thank Hillsborough County, for giving approval to our Mobility Department to handle the safety work on West Shore Boulevard, which is a County road," Parks & Recreation Director Ted Fowler said. HCC to Host 9/11 Remembrance Events on Friday

"September 5, 2023 Hillsborough Community College (HCC) will host a series of events on Friday, September 8, 2023, to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The events are designed to provide opportunities for reflection, remembrance, and service. Brandon Campus Time: 8:45 a.m. – 9:15 a.m. Location: Flag Pole Description: A remembrance ceremony will be held at the flagpole. The ceremony will include a moment of silence, the Pledge of Allegiance, and remarks from HCC leadership. Dale Mabry Campus Time: 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Location: Student Services Auditorium, DALE 114 Description: There will be a showing of "No Day Shall Erase You." The film is a student-led documentary which shares the personal reflections of those in the Tampa Bay Community on the 9/11 attacks and how the tragedy impacted their lives. South Shore Campus Time: 10:00 a.m. Location: SSC Lobby Description: A remembrance ceremony will be held in the lobby. The ceremony will include a moment of silence and remarks from HCC leadership. Ybor City Campus Time: 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Location: Performing Arts Building, YBOR 109 Description: There will be a showing of "No Day Shall Erase You."
