Winter Haven Airport Committee Reviews Projects & Future
The Winter Haven Regional Airport Advisory Committee reviewed ongoing projects and future plans during its Sept. 24 meeting, including infrastructure upgrades and upcoming community events. The next meeting is Oct. 22.

The Winter Haven Regional Airport Advisory Committee met Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026, to discuss ongoing projects and future plans for Gilbert Field. Chaired by Bruce Lyon, the meeting addressed air traffic control updates, safety improvements, and community events against the backdrop of Polk County's growth.
Committee members reviewed updates on the Remote Air Traffic Control Tower Project and airport safety enhancements. The Common Traffic Advisory Frequency (CTAF) changed to 120.425. Progress also continued on emergency generators and beacon replacement.
Infrastructure developments included awarding the Runway 05 Approach Clearing project to JT Ruby Contracting. Other discussed improvements include installing a high-security hydraulic slide gate, upgrading T-Hangar taxilanes, and enhancing the operations facility.
Airport Director Troy Heidel presented the Five-Year Capital Improvement Plan and FY27 hangar improvement priorities. The committee also received updates from the Pilot Association and discussed upcoming community events: Hands on Haven, an Aircraft Wash, and the Runway for Heroes 5K.
The next Airport Advisory Committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026, at 10 a.m. The public may attend and offer comments.
