Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Winston County, Immediate Action Advised

Winston County is under a Tropical Storm Warning with immediate action advised due to hazardous winds and potential moderate flooding; a Flood Watch is in effect, but no tornadoes are expected.

Staff Writer
10/09/2026 · Winston County edition

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Winston County, effective immediately and expiring at 1:00 AM CDT on October 10th. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, issued the warning at 9:56 PM CDT on October 9th, specifically impacting Double Springs.

Residents should prepare for hazardous winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, potentially causing limited damage to property and leading to scattered power outages. All remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This may lead to moderate flooding, causing rivers and tributaries to swell and potentially impacting structures. Consider protective actions if you are in a flood-vulnerable area and heed all flood watches and warnings.

The NWS currently reports that the situation is unfavorable for tornadoes, and none are expected. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
