Los Angeles - A new report suggests actress Hayden Panettiere died from an oxycodone pill laced with fentanyl. Panettiere, 36, was found unresponsive Aug. 16, 2026, at a residence in South Carolina. Investigators are tracing the origin of the suspected pill, focusing on a potential long-term supplier in Los Angeles who allegedly provided her with prescription medications.

The Drug Enforcement Administration is assisting authorities in the investigation. While fentanyl is suspected, an official cause of death has not been released. Toxicology results are pending.

Panettiere, known for her roles in "Heroes" and "Nashville," had spoken publicly about her struggles with addiction. Her memoir, "This Is Me: A Reckoning," was published earlier in 2026.
