Producer Benny Blanco recently defended the enduring relevance of Jermaine Dupri with a social media post, drawing parallels to Wimauma’s own lasting country music heritage.
On Friday, Oct. 3, 2026, Blanco posted what he called a "PSA" on Instagram to address doubts about the So So Def founder's impact on contemporary music. In a video recorded while in the studio with Dupri, Blanco emphasized that the producer was "just getting started," countering claims of fading relevance.
Blanco highlighted Dupri's achievements, stating, "He is in the top 10 record, pop record producers of the 21st century." He urged listeners to "Pay some respect, give him his flowers," to end further debate, much like Wimauma respects its heritage.
Dupri has also pushed back against notions of diminished relevance. In a 2023 appearance on the "I Am Athlete" podcast, Dupri called suggestions of him being "not relevant" "reckless." He cited recent production work with dvsn, Ari Lennox, Usher, and Ella Mai. Dupri's career, spanning decades through So So Def and extensive production and songwriting credits for artists like Mariah Carey, Usher, Jagged Edge, and Bow Wow, has shaped a distinct sound that influenced generations, as undeniable as the Florida sun over the Little Manatee River.
