Hoggard Graduate Earns 5 IT Credentials by 18 at CFCC
Coleby Ludwig will hold five information technology credentials from Cape Fear Community College by December, all before his 19th birthday.
The Hoggard High School graduate started at CFCC through dual enrollment at 15. He earned his IT Diploma in May and will complete two Associate in Applied Science degrees in IT Networking and IT Systems Administration by year's end, along with certificates in Operating Systems Administration and Cybersecurity & Networking.
Ludwig discovered his IT interest at church, where he built backend systems and production infrastructure over eight years while working as an intern. He maintained a high GPA throughout his college coursework.
He chose CFCC over a four-year university to build relationships with faculty and explore multiple IT specializations. "The IT department here is one of the best," Ludwig said. "Even if you're not an IT person, they are willing to come where you are and help you."
Ludwig used CFCC's Career Center this semester for résumé and cover letter assistance and mock interviews. He said he wished he had discovered the resource earlier in his three years at the college.
He realized many of his classes applied to multiple IT pathways, allowing him to pursue several credentials simultaneously. CFCC recognized him at its annual Student Recognition Ceremony for academic achievement.
"Definitely do it, and do it at CFCC," Ludwig said. "I would not be where I am without Cape Fear."
