USPS Package Intercept - Redirecting a Package
USPS Package Intercept For a fee, USPS Package Intercept® service lets the sender (or authorized representative) stop delivery or redirect a package, letter, or flat that is not out for delivery or already delivered. Most domestic mailings with a tracking or extra services barcode are eligible for Package Intercept. Retail Senders: You can redirect a shipment back to your address or to a Post Office™ location as Hold For Pickup. You can only request a Package Intercept online with a USPS.com account. Commercial Senders: You can redirect a shipment back to your address, to a new delivery address, or to a Post Office location as Hold For Pickup via Business Customer Gateway. How It Works 1. Verify that your shipment is eligible for Package Intercept. 2. If eligible, sign in to or create a USPS.com account to submit your request. 3. Use Retail Package Intercept to request that USPS redirect the shipment back to the original sender (you), hold it at the destination Post Office location, or hold it at a new Post Office location. 4. After submitting your request, you'll be provided an estimated total (intercept fee plus estimated Priority Mail® postage, if applicable). We will then attempt to intercept and redirect the shipment. 5. If the shipment is intercepted, your credit card will be charged the $19.45 Package Intercept fee plus any applicable postage. If the actual postage is greater than estimated, any additional postage will be charged accordingly. 6. Your shipment will be redirected to the location you requested. Paying for Package Intercept All intercepted items are redirected as Priority Mail. You must pay the applicable Priority Mail postage, except when the item was originally sent using Priority Mail Express®, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage®, or First-Class Mail®. Customers will not be charged if the shipment was not intercepted. If successfully intercepted, the non-refundable Package Intercept fee is applied to each intercept request. Depending on what items you're sending (and when you want them delivered), choose based on: Fastest delivery speed, Most affordable price, Shipping online vs. at a Post Office location. Compare Mail Services: Compare USPS mail services by starting retail prices, delivery speed, and more. Most services automatically include USPS Tracking (except First-Class Mail service), and you can add insurance and extra services. Save on Shipping: If you're using Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, or USPS Ground Advantage service, you can ship online with Click-N-Ship and get lower Commercial Rates. Businesses can get additional savings by opting in to the Business Rate Card. Fastest Delivery Speed services include Priority Mail Express (1-3 days, from $35.90 for Flat Rate Envelope or $35.65 by weight/zone, up to 70 lbs, includes up to $100 insurance) and Priority Mail (2-3 days, from $12.90 for Flat Rate Envelope, from $13.65 for USPS Shipping Box, from $11.00 for own box by weight/zone, up to 70 lbs, includes up to $100 insurance). Simple, Affordable, Reliable services include USPS Ground Advantage (2-5 days, from $7.90, up to 70 lbs, includes up to $100 insurance). Postcards & Envelopes services include First-Class Mail (1-5 days, from $0.61 for postcards, from $0.78 for letters, from $1.63 for large envelopes, letters up to 3.5 oz, large envelopes up to 13 oz, no tracking for letters unless buying add-on services). Media Mail is available for 2-8 days delivery at prices starting from $4.47. Eligible items include books (at least 8 pages), 16-millimeter or narrower films, printed music and test materials, video and sound recordings, playscripts and manuscripts, printed educational reference charts, medical loose-leaf pages and binders, and computer-readable media. Maximum weight is 70 lbs. Video games, computer drives, and digital drives do not qualify. Additional Package Fees apply for dimensional weight (packages larger than 1 cubic foot with DIM weight calculation), nonstandard packages, and live animals or perishables. Dimensional weight is calculated by multiplying Length x Width x Height and dividing by 166. Nonstandard length fees apply for packages between 22-30 inches (add $4.50) or more than 30 inches (add $10.00 for Ground Advantage or Priority Mail, $21.00 for Priority Mail Express). Nonstandard characteristics fees of $4.50 apply for cylindrical tubes, cans, wooden or metal boxes, or packages with shifting contents. Nonstandard volume fees of $21.00 (Ground Advantage) or $35.00 (Priority Mail Express or Priority Mail) apply for packages exceeding 2 cubic feet.
