Storm Surge Watch Issued for Coastal Levy: Life-Threatening Flooding Possible
A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Coastal Levy, including Cedar Key, Yankeetown, and Fowler Bluff, with a potential for life-threatening storm surge flooding of 2-4 feet above ground from Friday morning until Saturday morning.
Coastal Levy residents, particularly in Cedar Key, Yankeetown, and Fowler Bluff, are urged to prepare immediately for potential life-threatening storm surge flooding. A Storm Surge Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa Bay Ruskin FL, effective October 7 at 5:00 PM EDT.
The NWS forecasts a potential for 2-4 feet of storm surge inundation above ground in surge-prone areas, with a window of concern from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation orders, if issued for your area, must be heeded. Failure to evacuate could result in loss of life.
Significant impacts are possible, including damage to coastal buildings, weakened or washed-out escape routes, major beach erosion, and damage to marinas and docks. Moderate rainfall of 2-4 inches, with localized higher amounts, could also lead to localized flooding. While winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force (10-15 mph with gusts to 25 mph) and tornadoes are not anticipated, emergency readiness should be maintained for any forecast changes.
