Storm Surge Watch Issued: Evacuate If Ordered, Prepare for Flooding
A Storm Surge Watch is in effect for Cedar Key, Yankeetown, and Fowler Bluff with potential life-threatening flooding; residents should prepare for significant inundation and evacuate immediately if ordered.
A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for coastal areas including Cedar Key, Yankeetown, and Fowler Bluff, effective now until 3:00 AM EDT on October 8th. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa Bay Ruskin FL has issued this watch, indicating a potential for life-threatening storm surge of 2-4 feet above ground.
Residents in surge-prone areas should prepare for significant flooding from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations must be completed soon. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services. Expect damage to buildings near the coast, washed-out roads, and major beach erosion.
Additional rainfall of 2-4 inches is forecast, with localized flooding possible. Heed any flood watches and warnings. While winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force (10-15 mph with gusts to 30 mph), conditions may be gusty. Tornadoes are not expected. For more information, visit weather.gov/tbw.
