Residents of Coastal Levy County should prepare for potential life-threatening storm surge as Tropical Storm Isaias approaches. A Storm Surge Watch is in effect for Coastal Levy, indicating possible significant impacts including inundation, damage to buildings, and major beach erosion. The National Weather Service in Tampa Bay Ruskin FL issued this Tropical Cyclone Local Statement today, October 7, at 5:06 PM EDT.

Tropical Storm Isaias, currently located about 750 miles southwest of Cedar Key with 65 mph winds, is moving east-northeast at 8 mph. While tropical storm force winds are not currently a concern for our local area, storm surge of up to 4 feet is possible along the coast from Suwannee River to Yankeetown.

Coastal areas of Citrus, Hernando, Pasco, Pinellas, and Hillsborough Counties may experience locally hazardous surge with limited impacts. Residents are advised to follow the advice of local officials regarding evacuations. Check emergency plans and supplies, and secure homes and businesses. Always heed official orders and monitor weather.gov, NOAA Weather Radio, and local news for updates. The next local statement is expected around 11 PM EDT or sooner.
