Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Pike County: Flood and Tornado Threat
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Pike County, including Zebulon, by the NWS Peachtree City, warning of potential moderate flooding from heavy rain and several tornadoes; residents should prepare for significant impacts.
PIKE COUNTY, GA – The National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Pike County, effective October 8 at 11:16 PM EDT. Residents in Zebulon and surrounding areas should prepare for potential significant impacts from flooding rain and tornadoes.
While wind speeds are expected to remain below tropical storm force (10-20 mph with gusts to 40 mph), a Flood Watch is in effect. Peak rainfall amounts of 2-4 inches, with localized higher totals, could lead to moderate flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow, and some structures could experience flooding. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, with a few potentially intense. This could cause considerable damage, power loss, and communications failures. Residents in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly.
The Tropical Storm Watch is effective until October 9, 2026, 7:30 AM UTC. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes and weather.gov/atlanta.
