Holy Cross Volleyball Player Amanda Mack Dies at 20

Holy Cross sophomore volleyball player Amanda Mack died Wednesday, Sept. 16, three months after her diagnosis with a rare blood disorder. She was 20.

Mack, a Florida native, announced her diagnosis of Severe Aplastic Anemia in July on Instagram following a sudden health crisis. She described experiencing unconsciousness and hospitalization in critical condition, with dangerously low hemoglobin and platelet counts.

Doctors initially suspected leukemia but confirmed the rare blood disorder after bone marrow biopsies. Mack completed immunosuppressive therapy Aug. 14 and expressed hope for recovery.

Before transferring to Holy Cross, Mack played one season with the Colonels and previously attended Cincinnati.
