Watermelon Swim Welcomes New Students with First-Day Guide

Wesley Chapel families preparing for their child's first swim lesson at Watermelon Swim can find guidance to ensure a smooth experience. The local swim school prioritizes water safety, teaching essential life-saving skills like independent floating, wall-finding, and efficient kicking to build children's confidence in the water.

Upon arrival, parents and guardians should check in with 'Team Melon' at the front desk and mention it's their first visit. A staff member will provide a facility tour and answer questions. Check-in is completed via an iPad, where entering a phone number verifies the student's arrival. The front desk staff can assist if check-in is overlooked.

Watermelon Swim requires reusable swim diapers, specifically the Splash About Happy Nappy Duo, to maintain pool cleanliness. Disposable swim diapers are not permitted. Families needing to purchase a swim diaper should arrive 15 to 20 minutes early on the first day, as the diapers are designed to fit snugly and may require extra time to put on a young child.

The school acknowledges that children may feel nervous or uncertain around water, especially when separated from caregivers. Watermelon Swim uses gentle, fun teaching methods and positive reinforcement. Most children adjust and become comfortable with their instructor and the environment within three to six weeks of consistent lessons. 'Team Melon' focuses on encouragement and trust-building to help children develop into excited and confident swimmers.

Parents should bring a towel for post-lesson use and a change of clothes for the drive home. Children should arrive in swimsuits or have them ready to change into. Necessary supplies, including swimsuits and towels, are available for purchase at Slyce’s Pro Swim Shop on-site.

Children should not wear goggles to lessons. This policy helps students acclimate to water on their entire face, a critical safety skill. Goggles are allowed only for swimmers who have reached Level 5. Floaties and water wings are not permitted as they can create a false sense of security and hinder skill development.

Watermelon Swim thanks families for entrusting them with their children's swim education, emphasizing swimming as a vital life skill in Florida. 'Team Melon' is available to support families throughout their swimming journey.
