Wellington Water Meets All 2025 Safety Standards
Wellington Water Utilities released its annual water quality report confirming the village's drinking water met all federal and state safety standards in 2025.
The utility draws groundwater from 18 wells across three well fields and treats up to 12.3 million gallons per day using lime softening and membrane filtration. Mike Budny, the regulatory compliance manager, oversees contaminant testing under federal Safe Drinking Water Act requirements.
Wellington added 5.4 million gallons per day of membrane treatment capacity since 2020. The membrane technology removes PFAS, synthetic chemicals found in non-stick cookware and firefighting foam. The EPA set new PFAS drinking water standards in April 2024 with a 2029 compliance deadline.
The village plans additional projects to transition to full membrane treatment. The process forces pressurized water through semi-permeable barriers that remove viruses, bacteria, and chemical contaminants.
