Wellington Drinking Water Passes All Federal Safety Tests 2025
Wellington's drinking water met all federal, state and local safety standards throughout 2025, according to the annual water quality report released this week.
The Wellington Water Utilities system draws groundwater from the surficial aquifer through 18 wells across three well fields. The system treats up to 12.3 million gallons per day using lime softening and membrane filtration.
Membrane treatment plants remove contaminants, viruses and bacteria from groundwater. Wellington added 5.4 million gallons per day of new membrane treatment capacity since 2020 and plans additional projects to transition to full membrane treatment.
The membrane technology qualifies as EPA "best available technology" for removing PFAS compounds, synthetic chemicals detected in low levels in the groundwater supply. The EPA announced drinking water standards for six PFAS compounds in April 2024, requiring compliance by 2029.
