WEBSTER – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, MS has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Webster County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:31 PM CDT. Residents should act now to complete preparations for hazardous wind and potential moderate flooding.

Peak wind gusts of up to 45 mph are expected, with the potential for sustained winds between 39 to 57 mph. This could lead to limited damage to property such as porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes. Large tree limbs may break, and some trees could be uprooted, potentially causing scattered power and communications outages. Driving conditions may become hazardous, especially on elevated roadways.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 1 inch of rainfall expected. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues in vulnerable areas. Rivers and small streams may overflow their banks, and floodwaters could enter structures. Road and bridge closures are possible. Residents in flood-prone areas should consider protective actions.

The NWS indicates the situation is unfavorable for tornadoes, with little to no impact expected from them. This warning is effective until October 10, 2026, at 6:45 AM UTC (1:45 AM CDT).
