A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Webster County, specifically impacting Preston, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City GA, effective Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 11:17 AM EDT. Tropical storm-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours. This alert is set to expire at 7:30 PM UTC on October 8, 2026.

Residents in Preston should plan for hazardous winds of 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Potential impacts include damage to porches and sheds, broken tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Peak wind forecasts are 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

Moderate flooding rain is also a significant threat, with 1-3 inches of rain possible, and locally higher amounts. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding; evacuations and rescues are possible. Be prepared for rivers and tributaries to overflow, and for hazardous driving conditions. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes and weather.gov/atlanta.
